Mercedes M Class Grill

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ranks 4 out of 20 Luxury Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 9 published reviews and test drives of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
The redesigned 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class impresses reviewers with its attractive exterior, powerful, yet fuel-efficient V6 engines and more standard features.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is completely new, and reviewers are happy about the changes they’ve seen so far. The consensus of the auto press for the 2011 model was that it was pricey, and its competitors offered better value. Mercedes-Benz must have taken these comments to heart, because the 2012 M-Class comes with a more extensive list of standard features and has the same base price as the outgoing model. "Mercedes-Benz continues to keep it fresh with an all-new version of its popular M-Class SUV. More powerful engines with better fuel economy, improved handling and new technologies are all ingredients to a prize-winning recipe,” writes Left Lane News. “That they are able to do it and add additional content while holding the line on price-creep is even more impressive.”

2012 M-Class

With the 2012 M-Class, Mercedes brings the comfortable, luxurious driving experience of its flagship S-Class sedan to its most popular SUV.
If you don't like to be disturbed by the world around you when you drive, this redesigned luxury SUV is for you.
We tested the ML350 Bluetec, which is powered by a 240-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine and gets an EPA-estimated 20/27 mpg city/highway. Its starting price is $50,490, but with options our as-tested price climbed to $64,465. To see a side-by-side comparison with the similar Audi Q7 and BMW X5, click here.
Styling
The 2012 M-Class retains many of the previous generation's styling cues, like a wide front grille and forward-swept C-pillars, but the new design looks more substantial and imposing. Contributing to the more muscled look is an upright front end and a boxier overall shape. Whether or not you like the new styling will depend on your preference for evolutionary rather than revolutionary design.
The Inside
The redesigned interior mixes familiar styling cues with new design themes. Thanks to greater use of wood trim — especially on the dashboard — the cabin looks richer. There were, however, some annoying rattles in our test car, and I noticed some chassis flex.
Having driving a lot of cars lately, the commanding views afforded by the M-Class were a reminder of one of the reasons people like SUVs. The front bucket seats are supportive without being overly firm, and there's room for taller drivers to get comfortable (I'm 6-foot-1). Simulated leather upholstery is standard, while real leather is optional. With a starting price of nearly $50,000 for the M-Class, you'd think you could get real leather without having to pay extra.
Backseat comfort is decent; there was enough legroom with the driver's seat adjusted for me. There's not as much thigh support as I'd like, however, and the backseat doesn't slide forward or backward for additional cargo space or backseat legroom. The split backrest reclines by lifting a lever at the base of the seat.
The backseat folds flat with the cargo floor, but you first have to flip the seat cushion forward and make sure the head restraints are lowered. This is a dated, cumbersome design that was once common in SUVs but has largely been abandoned, which makes its presence in a redesigned luxury model all the more unusual.
Mercedes updated a key interface — the Comand system — and the changes make the M-Class' entertainment features easier to use. Prior versions of the SUV had a keypad on the dashboard that filled the role of the knob controller that's been used in other Mercedes models for years. From a usability perspective, it was a poor substitute. The redesigned M-Class' new center console incorporates a control knob just in front of the armrest. With this setup, Comand is one of the easier integrated systems to use thanks to intuitive on-screen menus navigated by simple knob movements.
With its sprawling amount of factory wood trim located in the cabin, the M Class welcomes additional elegance better than most contemporary models. We have what you need right here inside our exclusive selection of Mercedes M Class Wood Grain. Thanks to world-renowned manufacturers such as B&I, you can rest assured that every single inch is of pure, expert quality. Mercedes M-Class Spoiler

Mercedes doesn't do revolution when it comes to the M-class. Instead, the third generation of Mercedes' midsize SUV is noticeably tame evolution, one that emphasizes more efficient engines, a more luxurious cabin and enhanced safety.
On sale this September and still built in Alabama, the new 2012 M-class seeks to blend off-road versatility with the kind of on-road manners expected of a Mercedes sedan. To find out more, we spoke to the development team in Stuttgart, Germany. Here's what they had to say.
Mercedes officials claim the key attributes of the new M-Class are defined as "efficiency, capability and safety." This might not be a slogan to excite enthusiasts, but it will no doubt play well to the SUV's core constituency. Mercedes has sold over 1.2 million M-Classes since 1997, so it was never likely to take a big risk. This new SUV is predictably predictable, but that's unlikely to stop it from being a huge success.
Mercedes M-Class Spoilers are a tireless accent that can do wonders to this stylish crossover's exterior appeal, eliminating any doubt as to the brand of dominance you operate with.  We'll get you going in the right direction for your new Mercedes M-Class Spoiler because at CARiD.com, that's our primary focus. To make it happen, we enlist the finest manufacturers on the planet to design and sculpt your sleek and inviting Mercedes M-Class Spoiler while also guaranteeing the extreme level of quality you insist upon. Installation isn’t a worrisome procedure either, even for the most novice of car-owners. We give you everything you need down to the step-by-step instructions to move you along smoothly. Feel confident. Your era of superiority has just begun!

Car First to Test New Mercedes M-class

The reason for using only four cylinders is, says Mercedes-Benz, to boost fuel efficiency. The official combined-cycle fuel economy claim for the new ML250 CDI is 44.8mpg - an impressive figure. The Which? Car lab tests, however, revealed an overall average of rather less, at 38.2mpg.
That's still economical by full-size 4x4 standards, and beats the figures achieved by Which? Car for six-cylinder rivals like the BMW X5 30d and Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI.
It also means CO2 emissions are kept relatively low for a large 4x4. At 165g/km, you'll be paying £165 a year in VED tax.
Our testers also asked the question, are four cylinders enough for a luxury 4x4? With a mere 2.1 litres, the ML250 CDI cedes a fair amount of engine capacity to its six-cylinder rivals. The engine's peak power of 204bhp does, however, match the output of rivals like the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg in entry-level guise.
With some 2150kg to haul around, the ML250 CDI has just enough performance. And for a four-cylinder diesel, our testers judged it as refined - just not as quiet or smooth as a V6 diesel.
Mercedes-Benz also offers an ML350 CDI model with a 3.0-litre, 258bhp V6 diesel.  Mercedes M class 33 Series Air Filter

Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Mercedes-Benz M-Class has set the standard for luxury mid-SUVs. The body of the 2012 is redesigned to significantly lighten it, increasing the fuel economy in these times of gas price woes, shedding as much as 300 pounds. The redesigned lines are more angular and geometric than today's models.
Powerplants for the vehicle start with a 3.5 liter direct fuel injection V6, which has been upgraded to 301 rated horsepower, up from the 286 that this engine developed in previous generations of M-class. On the other end of the power spectrum is the ML63, with a massive 6.2 liter V8 generating 500 horsepower. Another variant will feature a 210 horsepower turbo-diesel. New for 2012 is 235 horsepower hybrid powered model. All models put this power on the road using a seven speed automatic transmission and feature electric all wheel drive. Suspension is of the double-wishbone variety. An air spring suspension with 3 driver-selectable levels of firmness is also available as an option. Four wheel disc brakes and anti-skid technology with traction control is standard for Mercedes. MSRP is expected to be around $46,000.00. Towing capacities is rated at 7,100 pounds.
Safety features that come standard include front and rear side airbags, curtain side airbags that deploy in the event of rollover. Mercedes' signature automatic braking system will probably be extended to the redesigned M model. Doors and windows unlock and fuel flow shuts off automatically in the event of a catastrophic impact.
Performance and handling are sporty for an SUV, as one would expect from Mercedes-Benz. Straight line stability is excellent. Such tall heavy craft are never going to handle like cars around the corners, but the steering is positive and linear. A very firm brake gives positive stopping power. The interior is roomy and quiet for passengers. Gas mileage is an EPA rated is 17mph city and 19mph highway.

Mercedes-Benz ML

Fresh off its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG is the company's latest entry into the high-performance SUV fray.
AMG's boss Ola Kallenius says it's a segment the company invented with the original ML AMG, and though BMW and Porsche have attacked it with a vengeance, there's still a lot to say for the ostensible original. Its power comes from a brawny 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8, good for 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to scoot the big SUV to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.
If that's not quick enough for you, there's an AMG Performance Package that boosts output to 550 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque and shaves a tenth on the 0-60 mph run.
Unbridled power and outrageous sound - that's what accompanies each
Mercedes exhaust system we store for you on our digital shelves. Manufactured from the premium materials using the latest technologies, they all are ready to complete the image of your vehicle and give you instant horsepower and torque gains.

2012 M-Class

Little was left untouched with Mercedes' redesign of its midsize SUV, the 2012 M-Class. This five-seater has a new look inside and out as well as revised engine offerings and chassis. Of course, we focused on child-safety seats, and we were excited to fit three car seats across the ML350's backseat. Very few two-row vehicles — luxury or otherwise — can handle three across.
For the Car Seat Check, we use a Graco SnugRide 30 rear-facing infant-safety seat, a Britax Roundabout convertible child-safety seat and Graco high-back TurboBooster seat.
The front seats are adjusted to a comfortable position for a 6-foot driver and a 5-foot-8 passenger. The three child seats are installed in the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driver's seat, and the infant seat and convertible seats are installed behind the passenger seat. We also install the infant seat in the second row's middle seat with the booster and convertible in the outboard seats to see if three car seats will fit. If there's a third row, we install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible.
Here's how the 2012 M-Class did in Cars.com's Car Seat Check:
Latch system: The M-Class has two sets of lower Latch anchors in the second row's outboard seats. The anchors are extremely easy to use because they sit out in the open. The SUV's three tether anchors are also a cinch to use. They're midway down the seatbacks.
Booster seat: The second row's seatbacks recline, which helps a variety of car seats get a good fit. Our high-back booster seat fit well in the second row. The seat belt buckles are on stable bases, making it easier for kids to buckle up independently.
